Everything Parents Need to Know About Jericho Little League -- 2023 Season

Hi Everybody,

We're working hard to get everything in place for a successful 2023 season. This is to answer some of the questions parents or players may have.

When Should I Register for the 2023 Season?

Registration is open now and will be open until February 10th, 2023. Please register now since helps with organizing the season. Tell your friends to register their kids too!

Who Can Register?

Anybody who lives within Jericho Little League boundaries or goes to school within Jericho Little League boundaries is eligible to register. This generally includes everybody living or going to school in UBC, as well as everybody north of 16th and west of Granville. Also within Jericho is a pocket around Carnarvon Park (and excluded is an area east of Arbutus and south of 12th). A map and a link to a "Little League Address Checker" is available here to determine eligibility (https://www.jerichobaseball.com/2021-spring-season).

When is the Season?

The house league season runs from early April to late June, 2023.

7 to 12-year-olds who are keen may have an opportunity to continue with Jericho after the regular season ends. There are "Selects" and "All Star" teams that typically run June through July. Details on those opportunities are available here: https://www.jerichobaseball.com/tournaments-1

What Division Should My Child Play In?

Jericho offers 7 divisions of play. For the 2023 season:

  • Blastball. Blastball is for pre-kindergarteners. The primary focus is fun. Kids will be introduced to being on a team and to the skills of throwing, catching, and hitting off a tee. It is intended for children born between September 1, 2018 and August 31, 2020. Blastball will be once per week, typically at Carnarvon Park between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Saturday mornings.

  • TBall. TBall is for 5 and 6-year-olds (kids born between Sept. 1, 2016 and August 31, 2018). The focus is on the fundamentals of hitting off a tee, fielding, and running, as well as having fun. TBall has one practice and one game per week, each taking about 1 hour. Practice days/times will be set by the coaches and division coordinators. Games will be on Saturdays. Optional sessions will also be offered on Sundays. More information about t-ball is available here: https://www.jerichobaseball.com/_files/ugd/6f7674_96716c6fd39b41609dd91217825ebb5b.pdf

  • Mini Minors. 6 and 7-year-olds (kids born between September 1, 2015 and August 31, 2017) are eligible for mini minors. 6-year-olds who are keen or have already played TBall, may chose to register for mini minors. Kids will continue to work on the fundamentals of baseball, including being introduced to "outs" and hitting from a low-speed pitching machine. There will be one practice and one game per week; practices are 1.25 hours and games are 1.5 hours, either at Trimble or Carnarvon. More information about mini-minors is available here:

  • Minors. Minors is for 7 to 9-year-olds (kids born between September 1, 2013 and August 31, 2016). If your 7-year-old is ready to move up from mini minors, minors is the next step. This is the first level where kids must attend assessments which will be held on February 12th, 2023. Please note that all eligible kids who want to play in minors are welcome; assessments are intended to help us create even teams to make the season more fun. While the league tries to accommodate friend requests, they cannot be guaranteed.

Kids in minors will hit off pitching machines. It is a semi-competitive development program, intended to build on fundamental baseball skills. Kids new to baseball are welcome.

  • Majors. Majors is for 9 to 12-year-olds (kids born between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2014. It is divided into three subdivisions. As with Minors, assessments will be on February 12th. Assessments will be used to determine placements into the subdivisions and to try to create parity between the teams.

  • Majors C. This is the first level with players pitching. There will be one practice and 1-2 games per week. Most practices and games will occur at Carnarvon Park.

The majority of kids in Majors C are ages 9 or 10 (Sept. 1, 2012 - Aug. 31, 2014). Committed 8-year-olds may try-out for Majors C but eligibility will depend the Feb. 12th assessments and if space permits.

  • Majors B. Most kids in Majors B are ages 10 or 11 (born September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2013). 9-year-olds may be drafted into Majors B and 12-year-olds who are new to baseball may play Majors B as well.

There will be one practice and two games per week. The season will end with a double-elimination playoff to determine a division champion.

  • Majors A. Majors A is the top division in Jericho Little League. It is primarily kids ages 11-12 (born between Sept. 1, 2010 and August 31, 2012).

There will be one practice and two games per week. The season will end with a double-elimination playoff to determine a division champion.

What is the Sunday Development Series?

Additional playing opportunities will be offered for keen players on Sundays during the season, in both the Minors and Majors divisions. The purpose is to have fun and to prepare for the season-ending tournament teams. The rules for those season-ending tournaments will be applied. This is a new program that is being developed and its success will depend on player interest and parent/volunteer support. For Minors division will have an extra game every Sunday among those participating Jericho players. For Majors Divisions will arrange Sunday games versus other Little Leagues throughout the Lower Mainland. Further details on eligibility to follow.

Welcome (Back) to Jericho Little League!

For many of us involved, our own little league experiences were among the highlights of our childhood. We hope to create the same for all kids in Jericho Little League. We hope to develop a community where kids look forward coming to the park and want to stay after they're done, to play and to watch their friends compete. Whether you're a returning family or new to Jericho Little League we look forward to seeing everybody this Spring!
