8 Yr. Old Tournament Team Results
Jericho’s 8 yr. old tournament team competed in the North Van Central tournament June 22-24. After losing 15 – 2 to the Highlands 8s, our players finally got a hard deserved win beating a very strong host NVC team 8 – 7. Jericho continued on a roll and beat crosstown rival Kerrisdale 15 – 6 which propelled them into the Bronze medal game.
Good hitting and top notch defense carried Jericho to victory over Forest Hills with a dramatic 8 – 7 victory and a 3rd place finish in the tournament. With a 3 – 1 record with the only loss coming at the hands of the tournament champions, these boys and girls should be very proud. Congratulations Jericho 8s!

2012 Addison Cup Winner
The Addison Cup is awarded to a graduating player who exemplifies Brad Addison’s dedication to excellence, perseverance and sportsmanship. It is with great pride that Jericho Little League announces Ryan Almhjell as the winner of the Addison Cup for 2012. Congratulations, Ryan!
Vancouver Westside Minor Softball
Vancouver Westside Minor Softball is Vancouver’s girl’s softball association. About 400 girls K-12 from across Vancouver play in our house and rep softball program. More information on our association can be found at www.vmsa.ca. House signup is in January but most Little League graduates lean towards our Wildcats rep program. Our rep (equivalent to gold in soccer) teams typically have an assessment day before soccer starts in September, and practice once per week in the winter (some start in October, others in January). Like baseball, our season runs April to the end of June, with Provincials in early July (this year a half dozen of our teams will be at provincials). If you are interested in Wildcats rep softball, contact Coach Chris Harrison (1999 birth year) firstname.lastname@example.org or Coach Brad Johnston (2000 birth year) email@example.com. If you want to see what rep softball is like, both teams are practicing frequently between July 2 and July 14 for Provincials. Three 1999 Wildcats are also members of this year’s District 5 BC Summer Games team.
June 23 Point Grey Fiesta Parade
It is time to remind you of the upcoming Point Grey Fiesta and the parade that kicks off the fiesta on the morning of Saturday, June 23. This community event has been running since 1986 and Jericho Baseball has traditionally had, and would love to continue to have, a strong presence in the parade. Here is a chance for your kids (and you!) to walk up 10th Avenue waving to all the adoring fans (neighbours). There are no games on June 23, so hopefully we’ll see many of you at the parade.
The parade starts at 10:00 am at the UBC gates on 10th Avenue and Blanca Street. We would ask that all participants from Jericho Baseball wear their team t-shirts and meet at West 10th and Tolmie behind the barricade on the north side of the street (near Curves Gym) at 9:30 am. Look for Lisa Steiman or Joanna Francis, our Jericho volunteer parents, who are coordinating our participation in the parade.
Festivities begin immediately after the parade at Trimble Park (the parade’s finishing point). The parade organizers have made special provisions so that our group will be able to view the entire parade, as well as participating in it..

2013 Majors Division Player Assessments – June 17 & 18
All players wishing to play in a Majors division for the 2013 season will need to attend a player skill assessment session. Majors divisions are usally for players with a “baseball age” of 9 or above as of April 30, 2013. Majors divisions are played with a standard hard baseball and are completely player pitched. Most players move into a majors division after completing a season in the Minors A division.
Majors divisions are tiered by skill level and teams are selected by coaches’ draft. Skill assessments are needed to place players in the appropriate division and team.
Jericho player assessments for the 2013 season will be held on Sunday, June 17 and Monday, June 18 at Carnarvon Park on the main (NE) diamond. Players only need to attend one session.
On Sunday, June 17:
5:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Assessments for “baseball age” 9 and 10 yr. olds
6:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Assessments for “baseball age” 11 and 12 yr. olds
On Monday, June 18:
4:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Assessments for “baseball age” 9 and 10 yr. olds
5:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Assessments for “baseball age” 11 and 12 yr. olds
Another assessment session will be held in February for anyone new to the Jericho district. For returning players, coach assessment information will also be used to place the players in the proper division.
Jericho Baseball Tournament Team
Good luck to our 8 year old All Star team! This long weekend, May 19-21, Jericho Little League will be competing in the annual Stong’s tournament hosted by our friends at Dunbar Little League. Please come out and cheer on our team. Jericho Little League is very proud of the following players:
Game 1 Report (Saturday, May 19): Dunbar1 15 – Jericho 8. The sun was shining for our first game which was a see-saw battle. The lead changed hands 4 times in a five inning game. There was plenty of good hitting by Jericho along with some nice defensive work. Following the game our team happily stormed the Dunbar concession for a tasty hot dog and some great post-game team building.
Game 2 Report (Sunday, May 20): Dunbar2 12 – Jericho 5. Our team played with enormous heart today, delivering a gutsy, disciplined performance in the rain against one of the tournament finalists at Memorial field. The Coaches continue to be proud of our young, gritty team led today by the exquisite fielding of Juliette Kladko and “Big” Peter Charuhas and the timely slugging of Blake Cotton and Auguste Turner.
Game 3 Report (Monday, May 21): Rained Out. The Stong’s tournament has been a fun learning experience for our team of great 8’s. Good luck to next year’s tournament team!

Little League Baseball has always been at the forefront regarding the safety and well-being of children.
