'08 Jericho Divisions

 

 

Coaches determine practice day and time.
Jericho Baseball strongly recommends mouth guards be worn by players in the MINORS A through MAJORS levels during defensive innings.

BLAST BALL
Usually 4-5 year olds, not in Kindergarten

Games: Saturdays at Trimble Park, 1st Game is April 19th
Game Times and Practice: 10:00 AM (may change depending on number of registrants)
Cost: $50.00
Late Fees: $35.00 late fee after March 15th

This is our introduction level to baseball. Kids hit a spongy NERF like ball from a Tee, run to the base and jump on it to make it honk. Teams are limited to 8. Games are Saturdays at Trimble Park. First a short practice and then the game. Equipment, jersey and cap are provided…no glove or helmet needed. As much fun for mom and dad as it is for the kids. Teams are built on “Buddy Requests”.

 

TEE BALL
Usually 5-6 year olds in Kindergarten

Games: Saturdays at Trimble Park, 1st Game is April 19th
Times: 10:00 (but this may change depending on number of registrants)
Practices: Usually one practice for 1 to 1 ½ hrs. Day and Time determined by Coach/Team
Cost: $75.00
Late Fees: After March 15th - $35.00; and, after April 1st an additional fee of $25.00 is added to the $35.00

Kids learn the basics of baseball while having fun. Fundamental skills in hitting, throwing, running and catching. A “soft” baseball is hit from a Tee and the kids run the bases. All players participate and rotate positions. Parents are expected to help at practice (bring a glove). Also, help will be needed to keep games organized. Equipment, jersey and caps are supplied. However, players must have their own helmet and glove. At least one parent per child is expected to help the Coaches at practice (bring a glove). Also, help will be needed at the games. Teams are built on “Buddy Requests” when possible.

 

MINI MINORS
Usually 6 and 7 year olds in Grade 1

Games: Saturdays and possibly a few Wednesday evenings, all at Trimble Park, 1st Game is April 19th
Times: 10:00, 11:30 or 1:00 (but this may change depending on number of registrants)
Practices: Usually one practice for 1 to 1 ½ hrs. Day and Time determined by Coach/Team.
Cost: $100.00
Late Fees: After March 15th - $35.00; and, after April 1st an additional fee of $25.00 added to the $35.00.

Emphasis is on having fun while developing basic baseball skills. A pitching machine is used. Each player hits every inning and advances one base. Caught fly balls and forced plays are called starting half way through the season. Equipment, jersey and cap are supplied, but player must have their own helmet and glove. All players rotate through the infield and outfield positions. At least one parent per child is expected to help the Coaches at practice (bring a glove). Also, help will be needed at the games. Teams are built on “Buddy Requests” when possible.

 

MINORS B
Usually 7 and 8 year olds in Grade 2

Those grade 3 players with good hand eye coordination and a love of the game will want to move up to Minors A after one year in mini minors. Other Gr 3's will want to spend two years in Mini minors solidifying their skill base.

Games: Saturdays and possibly a few Wednesday evenings, all at Trimble Park, 1st Game is April 19th
Times: 10:00, 11:30, or 1:00 (subject to change)
Practices: Usually one practice for 1 to 1 ½ hrs. Day and Time determined by Coach/Team.
Cost: $125.00
Late Fees: After March 15th - $35.00; and, after April 1st an additional fee of $25.00 added to the $35.00.

More emphasis on learning baseball skills and strategy while still having lots of fun. A pitching machine is used during games while developing pitching skills during practice. Games are 5 innings. Each inning is limited to 3 runs or three outs except the last inning, which is unlimited runs. Equipment, jersey and cap are supplied, but player must have their own helmet and glove. Games are at the East diamond at Trimble Park, usually Saturdays with an occasional Wednesday game. Usually one practice per week…day and time is determined by the coach. All players rotate through the infield and outfield positions. At least one parent per child is expected to help out at practice (bring a glove). Also, help will be needed to organize and proceed with the games. Teams are built on “Buddy Requests” when possible.

 

MINORS A
Usually 8 and 9 year olds in grade 3 /4  (10 year olds not drafted into Majors B)


Games: Saturdays and every second Wednesday (average of 1 and ½ games per week)
Field: Carnarvon, North West
Game Times; TBA
Practices: One or more per week as needed, Day and Time determined by Coach/Team
Cost: $150.00
Late Fees: After March 15th - $35.00; and, after April 1st an additional fee of $25.00 added to the $35.00.

Developing skills is emphasized in our Minors A division. Season starts with machine pitch, then onto player pitch. This is the first time batters face player pitchers with regulation hardballs. Games are 6 innings with a 3 run per inning limit or 3 outs. Last inning is always unlimited runs. Limited “Buddy Requests”. Equipment, jersey and cap are supplied, but player must have their own helmet and glove. Sports cup is mandatory. Games are Saturday’s and Wednesday’s at Carnarvon Park. Usually 1.5 games and one practice per week. The coach determines day and time of practice. All players rotate through the infield and outfield positions and all players bat. Umpires are provided by the league…coaches and parents learn that the umpire is always right. At least one parent per child is expected to help out at practice (bring a glove). Also, help will be needed to organize and proceed with the games.

 

MAJORS B
Usually10 through 12 year olds  (11 & 12 year olds not drafted into Majors A)

Player Evaluation: April 5th, 2008 at Carnarvon Park. All players are required to attend. Time will be announced closer to the date (likely to be all afternoon). If you cannot make the April 5th date then please contact Bruce Richardson, Player Development Coordinator at info@jerichobaseball.com. 

The emphasis is on balanced teams in a balanced division. Players may be asked to move up or down a division.

Games: Two or more games a week, times and days TBA
Field: Carnarvon and Jericho
Practices: One or more per week as needed, Day and Time determined by Coach/Team
Cost: $150.00
Late Fees: After March 15th - $35.00; and, after April 1st an additional fee of $25.00 added to the $35.00.

11 and 12 year olds (skilled 10 year olds with approval of the Jericho Board)

Player Evaluation: April 5th, 2008 at Carnarvon Park. All players are required to attend. Time will be announced closer to the date (likely to be all afternoon). This is our most competitive division, with a high level of commitment. Players earn their position based on skill, attitude and dedication. All players bat through the order. Games are 6 innings with no run limits per inning. Minimum innings are guaranteed by our “House Rules”. Division includes interlocking play with other leagues. Games are at Carnarvon and include road trips. Equipment, jersey and cap are supplied; player must have their own helmet and glove. Sports cup is mandatory. The league provides umpires.

PLAYER EVALUATIONS AND DRAFT

All Little League age 9, 10, 11 and 12 year old’s that were not on a Majors team in the ’07 season must attend the Player Evaluation session.  During the session, players are evaluated by the Majors coaches in four basic skill areas, hitting, running, throwing and fielding.  Evaluations will take place just prior to the draft in mid March. 

Those 9 & 10 year olds not drafted onto a Majors team will play Minors A.  11 & 12 year olds not drafted onto a Majors A team will be placed in the Majors B pool.
